About Men in Mind
Men in Mind is evidence-based online training that equips health practitioners to better engage men. It offers two learning streams: a course for mental health practitioners working in depth with men, and three profession-specific courses for the GPs, nurses and pharmacists on the front line of primary care. The conversations look different depending on the setting, and so do the courses.
Men experience depression and suicidality differently to women , and they engage with care differently, too. They turn up later, talk less, mask more, and disengage faster. Three in four suicide deaths in Australia are men. And 87% of Australian men who died by suicide had accessed a health service in the year before their death. Yet around 45% of men drop out of care early.
Men in Mind exists to close that gap. Created by the Movember Institute, it gives practitioners across every setting: from psychologists to GPs to pharmacists, the confidence and the practical tools to recognise what distress can look like in men and to keep them engaged in care.
Our goal is simple but ambitious: a generation of practitioners who know how to reach men early, respond to what they're really saying, and change the trajectory of a life before it reaches crisis.
Our approach
Everything we build starts with evidence. Then we work with clinicians, learning designers and men with lived experience to turn that evidence into something you can actually use.
Every module is built on the Movember Institute's research program and peer-reviewed literature on how men engage with care, with content informed by expertise from the Black Dog Institute, the University of Melbourne and the University of British Columbia.
Short scripted videos, reflective exercises and downloadable worksheets give practitioners tools they can apply in their next conversation with men.
Content draws on what men themselves tell us, including research on what led them to seek help, alongside the clinicians who supported them, so it reflects how engagement really unfolds.
